2023
We are just coming back from a trip of a lifetime to Japan. That 16-hour time difference is a killer, so I decided do that Instacart thing and make an (easy) old favorite this week. Fairly certain it came from the back of a Philly Cream Cheese package a hundred football seasons ago. I cut this recipe in half, as we are but two tired travelers eating on this football day.
Enjoy!
2 8 oz packages of cream cheese
1/2 cup Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce
1 package real bacon pieces
1 chopped tomato
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1/2 cup sliced green onion
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar
Spread cream cheese on 12" plate
Top with BBQ Sauce
Sprinkle all ingredients
Serve with Fritos scoops or tortilla chips
2018
We were at home this past week trying to decide what to order for football day. It is sort of a lame reason that we chose to focus on the Chiefs (I hadn't created any KC recipes or a post about them, so it was choice by default) but the results were delicious.
As I have yet to attend a game at Arrowhead, I played a Google-based guessing game. Jack Stack BBQ made selecting and ordering super easy. We opted for the 'Taste of Kansas City' package:
Pork Burnt Ends (1 lb.)
Chopped BBQ Beef Brisket (1 lb.)
Hickory Pit Beans (16 oz.)
KC Original BBQ Sauce (18 oz.)
This little taste of meat heaven will run you about $70 plus an extra $20 for shipping (I was able to find a coupon code online that helped knock that shipping down a bit).
Was I worried about my delicious eats melting in the giant oven that is south Georgia in September? Yes I was, but all my fretting was for naught.
The package arrived when promised, packed to the hilt with dry ice.
I simply heated up the meats according the the included directions. The brisket was to die for (I maybe shoveled an unladylike amount into my mouth while waiting for the burnt ends to heat up).
We added the potato buns to make sliders and feasted.
What is your favorite style of barbecue? Feel free to share your Kansas City recipes with me here, and here's hoping that Mahomes is the real deal.
